It started under warranty
A written factory or certified pre-owned warranty covered the concern when it first appeared. An expired warranty today does not necessarily erase that history.
A TLX that shifts unexpectedly, will not remain in Park, stalls, knocks, or smells of fuel can move through very different dealership diagnoses. A model-specific warranty record should separate transmission logic and hardware from engine, fuel, timing-belt, and brake-pedal concerns.

A TLX may qualify when a substantial written-warranty defect continues after reasonable repair attempts or causes significant downtime. Model year and powertrain matter: an older transmission campaign and a newer V6 bearing or fuel-system action are not interchangeable.

Start with the repair history
The key question is not whether other TLX owners had the same complaint. It is whether your own substantial defect arose under warranty and remained unresolved after a reasonable opportunity to repair it.
A written factory or certified pre-owned warranty covered the concern when it first appeared. An expired warranty today does not necessarily erase that history.
The same symptom returned, the service center could not duplicate it, parts or updates did not fix it, or the vehicle accumulated significant downtime.
The problem is more than an annoyance and materially limits the TLX’s operation, reliability, value, or safe use.
What happens next
Share what the TLX does, when it happens, the warning messages, and each attempt to diagnose or repair it.
We compare the warranty and repair timeline with the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the applicable state lemon law.
The facts may support pursuing a refund, replacement, or cash-and-keep settlement. Availability varies, and no result is guaranteed.
Vehicle-specific issue guide
Depending on model year, trim, and powertrain, the themes below have been documented in public NHTSA records and manufacturer safety campaigns. They are starting points for organizing your records—not a claim that every TLX is affected.
A transmission wiring-harness or connection fault on certain TLXs can cause an unexpected shift into Neutral. Record speed, selected gear, dashboard messages, loss of acceleration, and harness or transmission-control repairs.
Certain early TLXs had transmission components that could prevent Park from engaging as intended. Preserve rollback, parking warnings, use of the brake, and any pawl, rod, transmission, or software remedy.
Affected V6 TLXs may experience connecting-rod bearing wear, noise, loss of power, seizure, or engine damage. Oil-change records and the dealer's crankshaft, bearing, or engine inspection are central to the history.
Defined TLX model years have been included in fuel-pump actions involving reduced delivery and stalling. Note long cranking, fuel level, stall conditions, pump replacement, and whether another powertrain symptom remained.
A manufacturing issue in certain V6 timing belts can allow teeth to separate and cause an engine stall or internal damage. Save belt inspection, timing codes, compression findings, and engine-repair details.
Particular newer TLXs have had fuel filler-to-tank weld or brake-pedal pivot concerns. Report fuel odor or leakage, pedal looseness or movement, and the precise tank, filler neck, or pivot repair.
Build the paper trail
Keep TLX gear and Park warnings, rollback details, engine-noise recordings, oil analysis or inspection findings, timing-belt and fuel-pump work, fuel-odor photos or notes, and brake-pedal changes. Ask the dealer to state the transmission software, engine variant, and campaign completed.
Common questions
Note speed, gear indicator, warning text, road conditions, whether propulsion returned, and towing. Ask the dealer to print transmission codes and identify harness connections, programming, or internal hardware inspected.
Yes. Use the parking brake and follow Acura's instructions, but document any rollback or failure to show Park. The separate brake does not necessarily repair a transmission pawl or rod condition.
They involve different components, model years, and evidence. Bearing review may involve oil history, noise, debris, and crankshaft inspection; a timing-belt issue may involve belt teeth, timing codes, compression, valve contact, or sudden stall.
Yes. A severe engine event and lengthy replacement can warrant review even before many attempts accumulate. Eligibility and remedies still depend on warranty timing, diagnosis, downtime, and governing law.
A cash-and-keep resolution may be available under federal or state warranty law. Refund or replacement may also be considered where authorized, but all remedies are fact-dependent and not guaranteed.
